Water is where this organization began. It is also the clearest example of the pattern USAW exists to break: women manage a household’s water directly, they carry the cost when it fails, and they are rarely part of deciding how it is governed.

This pillar treats water as one system from catchment to coast - reclamation, efficiency and stormwater capture inland, and marine conservation, plastics reduction and coastal livelihoods where the water meets the sea.

What this programme does

  • Water reclamation, water efficiency and stormwater capture projects
  • Rainwater harvesting for households and community facilities
  • Community water resilience planning
  • Ocean plastics reduction and coastal livelihood support

How we will measure it

USAW is pre-launch, so these indicators have no baseline yet. Baselines will be set during Phase 1 research and reported annually, disaggregated by sex and age.

  • Volume of water reclaimed or captured through supported projects
  • Households reached by water efficiency interventions
  • Coastal livelihoods supported
